Glass Marbles |
Collectible marbles can be divided into three types, by age, German handmade marbles produced from 1862 1920, and American machine made marbles produce from 1905 onwards and con temporary marbles produced mainly in America.
German handmades are usually the most desirable and often
the most desirable, the majority were produced from the 19th century,
until the outbreak of World War I. Which Led to their export ending and the
decline in the industry.
These examples can be identified by the small print down,
slightly rough areas on the pontil mark.
Where the marble was removed from the rod in its
manufacturing.
There are many different types and subtypes particularly
with swirls, look for complex designs and symmetry.
The majority are categorised by the elements they contain
and the style of the elements certain colours such as blue and red are rare.
American machine made marbles are readily growing in their
pop reality, as yesteryears children become today’s collectors and the limited
supply of handmade marbles become more sought after.
Contemporary marbles are usually identified and priced as
such.
Condition is very important with American machine marbles
but less so with German handmaids.
