USA, but in the 1930s there was an upsurge in British production.
Most compacts were made of sterling silver, silver plate,

From plain to detailed, stylish, and bejeweled,powder compacts
came in all shapes and sizes, and prices.
Some even had mechanisms that allowed them to play music.
