GLEN GARIOCH

 BEST DRINKING WHISKY

The Garioch is an 30 kilometre long stretch of highly fertile land known as the granary of Aberdeenshire'. According to a report in the local newspaper, The Aberdeen Journal, a distillery opened here in 1785, although the current operation dates from 1798. Several of the original buildings are intact, the distillery retains some original floor makings and has a charming appearance.

Unfortunately the unreliable water source has caused problems in the past. William Sanderson, the creator of VAT 69, bought Glengarioch in 1884, whence the distillery- joined DCL. It was acquired by Stanley P Morrison in 1970, as part of his bid to build a portfolio of distilleries from each geographical region, and he successfully dug a deep well nearby to secure his water supply, and installed a third still. Sadly, the distillery was mothballed in 1995 . but the good news is that it re-opened in 1997.

Morrison Bowmore bottles at 15 and 21 Years and has a special bottling of 1987, which is now becoming extremely rare.

Tasting Notes for the

 BEST DRINKING WHISKY

Prop @ 15 Years (43%): Mid gold in colour, the nose is peaty, with lavender and sawdust and traces of sandalwood. This quickly develops into a distinctive ginger aroma. The ginger persists in the flavour, and the finish is chilli-hot and spicy.

SMWS @ 12 Years (57.8%): Red gold in colour, with a sherried nose. When water was added, limes in caramel - a mix of sweet and sour - emerged, with earth smells and a strong note of lovage. The flavour was woody, as was the finish.

  1. I appreciate a good whiskey, but now I have too many years and I can not afford to calm my nerves in this way. For me, there was only one option - https://purekana.com/products/strawberry-limeade-pure-picks/This is a herbal medicinal product based on CDB. It successfully replaced me with alcohol and nicotine.
